The guidelines are very clear about Alphas. :-)

I think it's the tone that's making y'all think beta (and maybe the reactions). If you're very used to those really brooding Alphas, one that isn't dark and broody is going to seem Beta, even if he's not.

I've been thinking about Much Ado for several days now -- I foresee a movie night in my near future!

Umm, as for where they come from. Mine sometimes come from a character or a scene that pops into mind and I build the story around that. However, my 3rd book (Magnate's Mistress...Accidentally Pregnant!) started with the opening line. Really. The line "Note to self: never prepay your honeymoon" popped into my head and I wrote a whole book just so I could use it!

Hmm, a pinch of Beta. I hadn't thought of that! The MH hero does sort of seem that way to me at times, but maybe that's because he just doesn't react quite the same as a Modern hero. I'm not sure!

I have no idea how I come up with stuff! It usually starts as a scene and then I have to figure out who these people are and what their issues are. It's very organic -- and a bit of a pain in the backside!

Kimberly,

Thank you so much for the posts. The MH line is awesome. If only my voice wasn't so dark (sigh).

And, thanks for the comparisons. It's been awhile since I've read MAAN, but, you're right.

Sometimes I think there's just a pinch of Beta in these MH heroes. Am I right or am I just mixing things up?

And, I don't know if I should even ask this, but it is a question for Lynn and you: How do you come up with those premise(s)? They are great.

   Off to work.

You're very welcome, Rebecca. I hope you found something helpful in my rambles.

(I'm very excited about my upcoming books -- I hope to get the blurb for Boardroom Rivals, Bedroom Fireworks up soon. It's my winery book!)

I do only write for MH. (And I love it. I sometimes feel like they created this line especially for me!) All the editors are looking for great new voices and stories, and they are actively acquiring all the time. Plus, they take submissions electronically now in the London office.

Hi, Kimberly, thanks for another informative blog about Modern Heat. I visited your website and loved the premise of your upcoming releases! I look forward to reading them.

Do you write solely for Modern Heat? Also, do you know if the editors there are actively acquiring books from new authors?
