Amazon Fail
Thursday, November 5th, 2009 Nov 5th, 2009 leave a response

I am so irritated with Amazon at the moment that I can hardly write this post. I’ve recently found out what it’s like to be a published author with a book coming out that Amazon attributes to someone else. I keep trying to change the information, but so far they aren’t budging.

The Prince’s Royal Concubine is MY book, due out in March 2010 from Mills & Boon Modern. It will also come out in Harlequin Presents in the months after. Yet Amazon seems to think that my book belongs to Lee Wilkinson. How do these things happen? I wish I knew, but I’m having a heck of a time correcting it.

Want to see for yourself? Here’s the US link and the UK link.

Nothing like slaving over a book and having it attributed to someone else! How would you feel? I know they can’t forever call it someone else’s, like when the cover comes out and they can clearly see it’s mine, but I’m still pretty ticked off about this.

Amazon, give me back my book!

QUICK UPDATE: Thanks for all your words of support! I truly did not expect for folks to email Amazon on my behalf, but I do appreciate it! It seems as if they are in the process of correcting it right now. Hopefully it will be completed soon! :)

That stinks! Has your publisher ever had this happen to an author before? I’m sorry this happened!

 I’ve seen them get reviews from other books linked to different books. Got one of the HP authors really awful reviews for their book, but they weren’t really reviews for their book, so the one star rating was totally undeserved and making them look bad. But this? This is an epic fail.

Ten points for usage of the word concubine though.

LOL, thanks! I was pretty proud of my concubine. They haven’t had that in a title before – or at least not for a long time!

Yeah, I’ve seen the reviews like that and it is really disheartening. I’ve pretty much learned that you have to stay on top of Amazon!

I’m not sure. I’ve asked the authors if any of them have ever had this happen before. I’m waiting to see what they say. Just goes to show you have to watch Amazon!!

I’ve never seen it! Lots of points for being original. And I’m intrigued.

Yeah, I try to say things on Amazon when I see errors, let them know. I try to do my part.

They’ll fix it eventually. It’s just getting through their bureaucracy. Which is a major pain in the butt.

Is it only Amazon? I can’t imagine….what if we all mount an email to Amazon? Maybe then it would be corrected. Sending hugs

OK, here’s what I just did, I took the URL from this post, signed in to Amazon, changed the author name to yours and sent a copy of this URL. If we all did this, maybe they would get it!

Thank you, everyone! I believe they are correcting it now. I finally got a response from a live person at Amazon, and Amy Wilkins at Harlequin is helping me too. I’m confident it will get fixed soon!

Evil of them to be so unhelpful to you. But remember, you’re the published author and they’re just the peons who list the books. I’d be bitter too if I were them.

It’s like having your name wrong in movie credits, which sucks, mind you, not saying it doesn’t, but who looks like an idiot? The guy who typed the credits. And he still has to be the guy who types the credits. And he can’t even do that right.

You get to be Angelina Jolie.

That’s the only trouble with cyber organisations like Amazon and e-Bay etc. When things go wrong there are very few “real” people to talk to about it! Hope it is resolved soon Lynn! Take care. Caroline x

    Bummer man.

Sometimes I wonder if Amazon is trying to take over the world. It seems hard for smaller companies and booksellers to compete with the selling that goes on over there. That’s one reason I haven’t committed to the Kindle. Is Amazon the only store you can buy ebooks from? Can we buy from eharlequin as well? Can we check ebooks out from the library and read them on the kindle?

Sorry, got sidetracked. Hope you get it sorted out. Where the cover? Your covers always look beautiful – tres sexy! Hubba hubba.
