Cat Woes

I’ve not been a good blogger this week, but I have an excuse. My sweet little cat was spayed last week. And then she decided it’d be a good idea to try and get the stitches out a few days later. So, between vet visits and outfitting her in an E-collar and onesies, I’ve been busy. The little Houdini got out of the E-collar last night, but she didn’t lick the incision thankfully. And the onesie is just hilarious, but she can get out of that too.

So I sit here watching a cat much closer than I’d like and obsessing about my wardrobe for conference. I did manage to do some shopping yesterday, since I had to go out and get the onesies, and today will probably be dedicated to trying things on. And slipping the onesie back on the cat.

The new baby

Monday is such a get-back-to-business day. I’m supposed to be writing a fabulous blog post about books or writing or some crazy yet fascinating aspect of my personal life, but I can’t think of anything. So, I thought I’d post a pic of the new baby. We named him Patton, simply because we already have a Nimitz. There seemed to be a theme going, so we went with the flow (after trying out various other names that just didn’t fit). Since these two larger-than-life WWII military commanders were such ego-centric characters, their names fit cats quite well.

Flights of angels are singing my sweet Thumper to his rest right now. This is the last picture we took of him. It’s only a couple of weeks old. Here, he’s lying in his favorite chair at my parents’ house. Nimitz (grey tiger) is lying with him.

Thumper got sick very suddenly. The vet diagnosed acute kidney failure, the same thing that ended up killing my Miss Kitty two years ago today. It’s so hard to say goodbye. I miss my good old boy. He was the best, sweetest, steadiest cat ever created.

Here’s Thumper in 2004, shortly after we moved to Hawaii. I’m sad, but thankful his end was easier than Miss Kitty’s. He had a good life and passed quickly at age 16 1/2.

So we begin the New Year with our Nimitz, thankful for his cute self. We’re sad our Thumper is gone, but we’re also certain we’ll invite another pet into our lives this year.
